A person who stole a Riverview resident’s wallet out of his vehicle wasted no time attempting to rack up numerous purchases with his credit card.
The theft was reported to police on the afternoon of Nov. 8 and occurred in the 14000 block of Kingswood Road. A resident told the reporting officer that her husband had his wallet stolen out of his 2023 Ford F-150 that was parked in the couple’s driveway. The pickup truck had been parked there since about 10:30 p.m. the previous night.
At about 7 a.m. the resident said she received a fraud alert text message notifying her that someone fraudulently tried to use their credit card.
Her husband immediately went out to his F-150 and discovered his blue wallet had been stolen out of the center console. The victim told the officer the truck was left unlocked and the only thing taken from it was the wallet, which contained several credit cards.
At 5:41 a.m. the woman reported that she received a text message from the fraud department notifying her that someone attempted to use one of their credit cards at an Exxon gas station for $50.51, but the charge had been declined.
She then received another fraud alert that at about 6 a.m. the thief tried to use one of the credit cards at the BP gas station on Allen Road in Southgate for an approved charge of $36, which was later refunded by the bank.
At 7:01 a.m. Capital One Business sent a text message that someone attempted to make an online charge with Target for a total of $593.59 that had been declined.
The resident told the officer that he may also have left his Social Security card in his wallet. The victims were provided with an identity theft packet that they were urged to fill out and then return to the Riverview Police Department.
The officer located three nearby mounted surveillance cameras on Foxboro and contacted the resident in order to determine if it captured the theft.
