As anyone running a business can attest, there are a lot of monthly costs. One expenditure there’s just no avoiding, however, is the phone bill.
But did you know that The Business Platinum Card® from American Express has a neat statement credit for eligible wireless telephone services, which includes cell phone bills?
Read on to see how you can maximize the wireless credit benefit and how your business can save up to $120 per year.
How Does the Amex $120 Wireless Credit Work?
With the Amex Business Platinum card, you’ll receive up to $120 in statement credits per year (up to $10 back per month) for wireless telephone service purchases made directly with a wireless provider in the U.S. You’ll need to enroll in this benefit in order to receive the statement credit.
You’ll want to make sure you’re making the correct purchases (more down below), or you won’t receive the statement credit. You’re only eligible for the statement credit on purchases for monthly wireless telephone service charges made directly from a wireless telephone service provider.
The easiest way to earn this statement credit is by paying your phone bill using your Amex Business Platinum card. For instance, if your phone bill costs $140 per month, you’ll save $10 monthly (dropping your bill to $130) simply by moving the bill over to your Amex Business Platinum card.
There aren’t too many restrictions on who can use the benefit, as the primary cardmember and employee card members are eligible for the monthly statement credit. However, you’re still only eligible for up to $10 in statement credits per month.
The following purchases won’t count:
- Bundled services
- Cellular repair services
- Electronics purchases
- Hardware purchases
- Purchases from authorized retailers, resellers, or third-party sellers
- VoIP services
Enrolling in the benefit is simple. First, you will log into your Amex online account. On the top menu, click Rewards & Benefits, then click View All Benefits on the right-hand side of the blue ribbon near the top of the page.
You’ll then see the Wireless Credit box. Click that button, hit Get Started, and you’ll be enrolled in no time.

And that’s it! You’ll receive your statement credit 6 to 8 weeks after an eligible purchase is charged to your card, but in our experience, statement credits typically post sooner than then.
Amex Cell Phone Protection
By paying for your wireless services with your Amex Business Platinum card, you’ll receive up to $1,600 in cell phone protection. The coverage is for up to $800 per claim with a limit of 2 claims per card account each 12-month period, and a $50 deductible applied to each claim.
Your monthly cell bill must be charged to your eligible card, and the coverage begins on the first day of the month following the initial card payment.
Covered losses include theft of the cell phone, which requires a police report to be filed within 48 hours, and damage to the cell phone, including a cracked screen. There is a list of exclusions, and some additional terms and conditions will apply.
