American Express Credit Cards changing: Platinum Travel Card design refreshed
American Express is one of the most sorted card issuers in India. They have a focused portfolio, and their focus is on increasing the spending from existing clients and not getting played by folks who try to find loopholes and misuse their card products to generate points. Now, some of those card products are changing.
American Express redesigns Platinum Travel Credit Card.
The American Express Platinum Travel Credit Card has been the first one off the block that has been redesigned. While the credit card has not been renamed on the website, Amex is now issuing the card with a fresh design, where the word “Platinum” has been conveniently let go. The card is now called the “American Express Travel” Card. And even the back of the card, where the digits are now, does not state the card is “Platinum.” Only the colour indicates it is a Platinum category card, and this redesign should eventually also reduce the confusion caused by people thinking that they have “The Platinum Card”, which is the charge card from the issuer.
The new card design is being rolled out in various different parts of the world. For instance, in the United Kingdom, some cards now sport a similar design. Even in Bangladesh, the new card design is being offered to customers of the American Express CityBank card.
My card was due for renewal, and a new card arrived with the new design, but nothing else changed for now. You can request a replacement card if you’d like the new design.
Word on the street is that other cards will also see a redesign in the coming days, and the American Express Platinum Reserve card will be the next card to see a design refresh along with its feature refresh on May 1, 2024. New applications for the card are currently shut.
Bottomline
American Express is in the process of redesigning its card portfolio, both features and design. The Amex Platinum Travel Card has gotten a new design, and Amex Platinum Reserve Card will most probably see a new design along with a new featureset.
What do you think of the current changes to the Amex Credit Cards offering in India?
