EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — As the school year gets underway, the El Paso Independent School District is reporting improved financial footing months after declaring a financial emergency in June.
In a letter to EPISD families, board President Leah Hanany outlined several updates, including new revenue and ongoing concerns.
Hanany said the district completed a $3 million sale of an empty property and is working to sell additional properties or find ways to repurpose them. She also wrote that revenue from the first week of football games was higher than the first week of 2025, and that 100 employees have been rehired after being let go in 2025.

At the same time, Hanany said the district’s employee health plan fund is spending more than it is bringing in. She also wrote that enrollment is 497 students below projections.
Hanany said EPISD will launch a “public financial dashboard” aimed at making it easier for the public to track enrollment, revenue, expenses and payroll numbers.
“We are still expecting to end the year in a surplus, which would be the first time since the 2021 budget cycle,” Hanany wrote.
