Which gas apps can help you save the most money?

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – Gas prices are up just as you may be planning to take a road trip this Labor Day weekend.

Before you leave, you might be wondering which gas apps can help you save the most money. We’re breaking them down.

But first, we’re asking drivers how they’re saving on gas.

“I try to loop everything into one trip, if that makes sense, I really do. I try not to idle my truck,” Antoine Kennelle, a professional truck driver, said.

“Instead of going to do nothing, going to do something, instead of running my gas,” said driver Deborah Marbeley.

And Larry Martin, who drives a lot for work, told us, “It takes away entertainment, it takes away fun. You can’t do anything but go to work and support the kids.”

If you’re looking to use a gas app to save money, finding the biggest savings will depend on the gas stations where you fill up and how much you drive.

Here are some of the bigger money-savers.

The free GasBuddy app shows you nearby gas prices so you can choose the lowest price. If you link your checking account to its Pay with GasBuddy card, you can save 3 to 5 cents per gallon, and up to 33 cents per gallon when you activate a Deal Alert.

Circle K’s Inner Circle rewards program gives new members 25 cents off per gallon on the first five fill-ups, then 3 to 5 cents off a gallon. Link a payment through Circle K Easy Pay, you can save 10 cents a gallon.

At BP and Amoco, the Earnify app offers 5 cents off every gallon. Amazon Prime members can link their account to Earnify to save 10 cents a gallon.

With Checkout 51, you upload receipts to get cash back on gas, typically 10 to 25 cents per gallon for up to 50 gallons.

Upside is a free app with deals on gas, groceries, and restaurants, usually around 10 cents off per gallon.

Don’t forget wholesale clubs like Costco, Sam’s Club, and BJ’s Wholesale often offer lower gas prices for members. Plus the Costco Anywhere Visa, Sam’s Club Mastercard and other rewards cards offer cash back on gas, so you can stack up your savings.

And here are some more tips to help you get better gas mileage before your trip. Make sure you’ve got the proper air pressure in your tires, make sure your air filters are clean, and remove excess weight from your trunk.
