The city of Aspen has received formal recognition for three separate financial disclosures of the city’s fiscal plan and reporting for 2022, according to a city press release.
Each year the city’s finance department participates in an annual review process, conducted by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), for its reporting of what is referred to as the “Annual Budget Document” and “Audited Financials Document.”
For nearly a decade, the city has received recognition for its annual budget and audited financial documents. This year, the city announced that the finance department generated a third financial document called the “Popular Annual Financial Report” and received an additional award from the GFOA.
“I am proud of the team and how every member of the finance department contributes to these documents,” City Finance Director Pete Strecker said in a news release. “These are the backbone for operational decisions when managing an organization of 20 plus different departments.
“They provide the insight that the public expects and deserves around how public funds are being utilized to maintain the Aspen community and now relay the overall fiscal health of the city to any stakeholder, regardless of fiscal acumen,” he added.
These awards showcase how the city’s finance department successfully provides financial disclosure. The city remains on track to repeat this milestone achievement, having already received the distinguished budget award for its 2023 annual budget publication.
