Good morning [%first_name |Dear Reader%],
How many credit cards do you own? I have one. The ICICI-Amazon card that gets me cashbacks on shopping spends on the Amazon app. But I usually give my credit card the arm’s-length treatment—a deep fear of accumulating debt has never let me truly explore that enticing world of rewards and cashbacks.
But 30-year-old Kashif Ansari, an assistant professor of finance at OP Jindal University, doesn’t look at credit cards the way I do.
Last week, he added a new metallic American Express Platinum Charge to his collection of active cards.
His 30th.
A bit of an overuse of a product conventionally intended to make your life a little easier?
But why? What’s the attraction? The benefit? Are the downsides that much greater?
All were questions I asked myself when I first came across Ansari’s system. I was researching credit cards for a story and I found his X profile, which had regular updates about credit card devaluations and recommendations. He wasn’t blatantly publicising cards, but only sharing reviews after using them.
So I called him up and put those questions to him.

Transparent, Honest, Detailed. To me, The Ken has been this since the day I subscribed to them. The research that they put into each story and the way it is presented is thoroughly interesting. Personally, I’ve always had a great time interacting with the publication and reading the stories.

The Ken has proven naysayers wrong by successfully running a digital news publication on a pure-subscription business model in India. They have shown that discerning readers are willing to pay for well-researched, well-written, in-dept news articles.

As a designer, it’s easy to get lost in the craft of building products. As a business owner however, keeping up with a rapidly changing landscape is key to saying relevant. The Ken doesn’t just help me stay on top of what’s happening in India(and beyond), but makes it fun to do so.
