A Melvindale man was ordered to serve some more time behind bars and pay over $9,000 in restitution at his sentencing Thursday in three criminal cases, two of them for possessing credit cards and fake driver’s licenses in Warren.
Cornell D. Hayes, 33, was sentenced by Macomb County Circuit Judge Diane Druzinski to 14 months to five years in prison for the most serious charges against him after fled from police in a vehicle and was captured by police March 1, 2023, hiding under a bed in Center Line. Those charges to which he pleaded no contest are fleeing police, receiving and concealing a stolen motor vehicle and possession of two or more fake state IDs.
In the same case, he also was sentenced to 14 months to four years after pleading no contest to three counts of illegal possession of a financial transaction device.
He also was ordered to pay $5,200 to U-Haul rental company.
In a separate case, he was sentenced to one to five years in prison for carrying a concealed weapon and one to four years for possession of a controlled substance, analogues, for a Dec. 22 incident in Warren.
In the third case that occurred in July 2022, he was sentenced to one to five years for creating a fake ID and one to four years for illegal possession of a financial transaction device, and was ordered to pay $4,600 to Avis.
A fourth-habitual status was dismissed as part of the deal with Macomb prosecutors to resolve the cases.
He received prison credit for the approximately 10 months he has spent in jail.
