If you enjoy staying at Hyatt hotels, now is a great time to consider opening a Hyatt credit card. For a limited time, The World of Hyatt Credit Card and World of Hyatt Business Credit Card have welcome bonus offers that are higher than usual.
Through March 6, 2024, new cardholders can earn higher welcome bonuses with the following cards:
- The World of Hyatt Credit Card: 35,000 bonus points after spending $3,000 on purchases in your first 3 months, plus up to 30,000 more bonus points by earning 2 bonus points per dollar spent in the first 6 months on purchases that normally earn 1 bonus point on up to $15,000 spent, offer ends 3/6/2024
- World of Hyatt Business Credit Card: 60,000 bonus points after spending $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening and an additional 15,000 bonus points after spending $12,000 in the first 6 months of account opening
Let’s take a closer look at the new Hyatt credit card offers to help you decide if you should apply.
Most recently, The World of Hyatt Credit Card was offering up to 60,000 World of Hyatt points, so the new welcome bonus is only worth 5,000 more points. Because it’s a tiered offer, you’ll need to spend a significant amount to earn the full bonus ($15,000 in six months). That might be a dealbreaker if your regular expenses aren’t that high. But if you’ve had your eye on the card, now’s a good time to apply.
The card comes with useful perks that can make your Hyatt stays more comfortable (and rewarding), and the $95 annual fee is easy to justify with a single benefit: Each year on your card anniversary, you’ll receive a free night certificate valid at Category 1 to 4 Hyatt hotels. You can unlock an additional Category 1 to 4 certificate by spending $15,000 in a calendar year. These free nights can be worth much more than the annual fee depending on how you use them.
Cardholders also receive automatic Discoverist elite status, which is World of Hyatt’s lowest of three elite tiers. It comes with a handful of good perks, including 2 p.m. late checkout when available, premium internet access and free bottled water.
If you’re trying to earn a higher level of elite status, this card can help. You’ll automatically receive five qualifying-night credits each year, and an additional two qualifying-night credits for every $5,000 you spend on the card.
If you own a small business — or even make money from a side gig like driving for Uber or reselling on eBay — the World of Hyatt Business Credit Card may be a better fit for you. While it charges a $199 annual fee, it’s got a higher welcome offer than the personal version of the card, and you won’t have to spend as much to unlock the full bonus. Previously, the welcome bonus on the card was 60,000 points after meeting a minimum spending requirement, so the new offer is worth an additional 15,000 points.
On the downside, the card doesn’t come with an annual free night certificate, though you’ll receive up to $100 in Hyatt credits each anniversary year (a $50 statement credit when you spend $50 or more at a Hyatt property, up to two times per year). Cardholders also receive membership in the Hyatt Leverage program, which comes with discounts of up to 15% off standard room rates at participating Hyatt hotels. That could amount to significant savings if your business pays for a lot of Hyatt stays.
What makes the card unique is the ability to share automatic Discoverist elite status with up to five additional cardholders at no extra cost. And for each $10,000 in purchases you make in a calendar year, you’ll receive five qualifying-night credits toward the next level of elite status.
In addition, the card has an unusually customized earning structure. You’ll earn 2 points per dollar spent in your top three eligible spending categories each quarter through Dec. 31, 2024 (after that, your top two categories each quarter). The eligible categories are dining, shipping, airline tickets when purchased directly with the airline, local transit and commuting, social media and search engine advertising, car rental agencies, gas stations, and internet, cable and phone services.
World of Hyatt credit card alternatives
The new offers on The World of Hyatt Credit Card and World of Hyatt Business Credit Card are decent options for Hyatt loyalists, but you’ll have to spend a lot to earn the full welcome bonus on each.
If earning Hyatt points is your main goal, you’ll likely do better by opening a credit card that earns transferable Chase Ultimate Rewards® points. When you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, Chase Sapphire Reserve® or Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card, you can transfer points to Hyatt and over a dozen other airline and hotel partners at a 1:1 ratio.
