WESTPORT — An employee of the local Walgreens pharmacy has been charged with making more than $12,000 in fraudulent credit card charges, police said.
Keonte Cherry, 26, of Bridgeport, was charged April 23 with second-degree larceny, second-degree identity theft, illegally taking a payment card, illegal use of a credit card exceeding $500 and receipt from illegal use of a credit card.
A complaint filed with police last Aug. 18 alleged that more than $12,000 in purchases had been fraudulently charged against their credit card. The complainant reported that one of the places where the fraudulent charges were made was the Walgreens outlet in Westport.
Using the pharmacy’s video-surveillance footage, the investigating officer was able to identify Cherry, an employee, using the complainant’s credit card to purchase gift cards, according to the report.
The investigator checked surveillance footage recorded at other places where purchases using the credit card were made illegally, and identified Cherry as the suspect in those cases as well, police said.
A warrant for Cherry’s arrest was issued, and she was taken into custody April 23 by State Police. She was turned over the Westport police, charged and released after posting $10,000 bond.
Cherry is scheduled to be arraigned May 10 at state Superior Court in Stamford.
