WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) – Wichita police are looking for a man they believe is behind several cases of theft. They say he steals credit cards and quickly uses them to buy thousands of dollars of items before the victim even knows what happened.
Investigators say he’s likely behind several cases of stealing credit cards from people’s cars or purses.
“I looked in my purse, and my billfold was gone,” said a Wichita woman who asked not to be identified.
This woman doesn’t want to be identified, but police believe that the same man stole her billfold.
It was October 5th when the victim says she was shopping in the area of 21st and Maize, when the thief somehow got her credit card.
“Everything is gone, everything,” she said. “I had to call and replace.”
Police say within one hour of stealing the woman’s wallet, he went to the nearby Sam’s Club and bought $4,000 worth of gift cards and then used another of her credit cards to order another $4,000 worth of gift cards from Amazon.
“It goes to show you, crimes like this happen quickly,” said Crime Stoppers Coordinator Kris Gupilan. “We’re asking for the public’s help if they can help identify this suspect who is possibly connected to other crimes like this.”
Police say he’s getting into unlocked cars or stealing cards in other ways.
“It’s horrible,” said the woman. “I just don’t want anybody to go through this.”
If you recognize the suspect call Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111. You could be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,500.
